What is a book tasting?

A Book Tasting: A picnic-style setting with a book on the plate instead of food. In the middle of the picnic blanket, instead of food, more books to "taste" because books are "food" for the "Soul.".

What We Do

Art & Reading: A Book Tasting aims to increase an appetite for visual arts outside of the classroom while infusing literacy by teaching hands-on activities based on Art/Reading Standards. It gives children from diverse communities the opportunity to explore and experience visual arts alongside literacy in a unique way. By creating their own books and becoming an author and illustrator of their own stories without judgment, literacy becomes much less of a chore and transforms a shy child into a presenter, a courageous child into a scholar with the ability to teach a learned skill or two to his or her peers.

Project History

2020: 100 students served the Intercity of Las Vegas.
2021: 150 students served rural Nevada and the intercity of North Las Vegas.
2022: 135 Ukrainian refugee children served Warsaw, Poland.
2023: 200 historic Westside and North Las Vegas intercity students served.
2024: 100 historic Westside and East Las Vegas intercity students served.
